How Cards are Dealt in Blackjack |
Are you new to Blackjack and you are considering playing? If so, you’ll want to make sure you understand the premise of the game, how the cards are valued, and of course how the cards are dealt. The game is actually really simple to play, so once you understand these basic elements you’ll be ready to have some fun. Depending on where you play you may see small changes in the way that the cards are dealt, but generally all casinos do it about the same.

The Cards Are Dealt |
Once all of the players at the table place their bet the dealer will begin dealing cards to all of the players. The dealer will make two passes around the table, starting his left so that the players and the dealer will all end up with two cards. At this time the dealer will flip one of his or her cards over to show the table the value. If you are playing a shoe game all of the cards will be dealt face up and you will not touch the cards. If the cards are dealt face down you will be allowed to touch the cards and turn them over. Many beginners like the shoe games because they don’t have to worry about flipping the cards over at the appropriate times, etc.

If you are playing a game where you are dealt cards face down you will want to remember that you are only to touch the cards with one hand. You also must keep the cards over the table at all times and any cards that are dealt to you after the initial two cards must be left on the table, never added to the cards in your hand. If you play poker it can be difficult to break the habit of holding the cards in both hands, so make sure you pay attention to this when the cards and dealt and you picked them up.
After all of the cards have been dealt play will begin around the table starting with the first player to the dealers left, which is also referred to as first base. At this time each player will let the dealer know if he or she would like another card to add to the value of the hand or if they would like to hold, or not accept any further cards to the hand. After everyone has finished the dealer will then complete his or her hand and pay out or collect the debts of players.
There is a general exception to this type of dealing and that exception applies to casinos in Europe. In many European casinos the dealer has only one face up card until all of the players have determine how they would like t play their hands. It is after this that the dealer will finish his hand and is referred to as the European No Hold Card rule. This is just a bit different but may change your strategy a bit.
