What Exactly Is Blackjack?

Of course you know that Blackjack is a card game that is very popular at most casinos, but do you know what it takes to win Blackjack?  Do you know why the game has this name?    Many people who are interested in playing the game simply don’t have this information and you will definitely want to know what a Blackjack, often referred to as a natural, and is all about.  It’s simple really and when you have this information you will be ready to play Blackjack like a professional!

The Blackjack Or “Natural” Wondering what it takes to get a Blackjack in the game? Basically you have a Blackjack when your card total is 21 in your first two cards.  Blackjack is also called natural, so when you hear these phrases you know that they are referring to the same thing.  So, since you need to achieve 21 in your first two cards you essentially need an Ace and any of the ten valued cards in the deck.  Wondering if you could split a pair of aces and then draw a ten value card on one of the aces and still have a Blackjack?  The answer would be no.

The criteria for a Blackjack is that it is just two cards and they are your first two cards, no splitting, no hitting, nothing of that nature.    There are no bending of these rules, and really there needn’t be as the rule is really straight forward and makes sense just the way it is.

The reason why the distinction needs to be made about a Blackjack or Natural involving just the first two cards is that the payout is different.  For instance, a $10 bet wins $15 if the player makes a Blackjack.  It’s also important to note that when a player has a Natural, this beans out any dealer Natural or Blackjack, and when both have a Blackjack it is called a tie or may also be referred to as a push.

When you win Blackjack your winnings will be paid to you immediately when it is your turn to play.  If you are playing a game of Blackjack where the cards are dealt face down you will be paid when you show the hand to the dealer.  The fun part of the game is that Blackjack or Natural does not happen all that often, in fact it only happens about one in every 21 hands!  When you hit Blackjack it is a lot of fun and makes you want to play again and again!
